Hair restoration therapy

the most effective TREATMENT FOR HAIR LOSS IS THE FOLLOWING:

  • Identify the cause for the hair loss.
  • Treat the cause.
  • Stimulate new hair growth.
  • Prevent further hair loss.

MediLife developed a successfull treatment protocol to effectively treat most types of hair loss (alopecia).

Hair loss (know as 'Alopecia') can be caused by any number of conditions, reflected in a specific diagnosis. Some diagnoses have alopecia in their title, such as alopecia areata or scarring alopecia, but many do not, such as telogen effluvium.

Alopecia can be caused by many factors from genetics to the environment. While androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness, AGA for short) is by far the most common form of hair loss, doctors also see many people with other forms of alopecia. Several hundred diseases have hair loss as a primary symptom.

Probably the most common non-AGA alopecias a doctor will see are male pattern baldness, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, ringworm, scarring alopecia, and hair loss due to cosmetic overprocessing. Other, more rare forms of hair loss may be difficult to diagnose.

Androgenetic alopecia or common male pattern baldness (MPB) accounts for more than 95% of hair loss in men. By the age of thirty-five two-thirds of men will experience some degree of appreciable hair loss, and by the age of fifty approximately 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. Approximately twenty five percent of men who suffer with male pattern baldness begin the painful process before they reach the age of twenty-one.

Contrary to societal belief, most men who suffer from male pattern baldness are extremely unhappy with their situation and would do anything to change it. Hair loss affects every aspect of the hair loss sufferer's life. It affects interpersonal relationships as well as the professional lives of those suffering. It is not uncommon for men to change their behaviour and have less confidence because of their hair loss.

MediLife recognises how devastating male pattern baldness can be for men of all ages, and has created resources for men to get completely objective answers to their hair loss questions.

We strongly advise against researching your options through non-medical and commercial websites. There are hundreds of products and services being sold to the vulnerable hair loss consumer, but currently there are only a few medically approved products that have been clinically proven to stop or prevent hair loss and stimulate new hair growth. In addition, only a handful of doctors are performing hair restoration on a regular basis and have additional training in hair restoration.

At MediLife we offer a holistic approach to the treatment of hair loss:

We start with a comprehensive consultation to evaluate and determine the cause of hair loss. All possible medical causes should be identified and treated where possible.

We prescribe medical treatment to effectively stop hair loss due to a medical condition or refer you to an appropriate medical specialist to treat your medical condition.

We then start with an individualised treatment program the stimulate and prolong hair growth and also to prevent any further hair loss.

All treatment plans are individualised by a medical doctor according to the patient's specific condition.

Hair restoration/rejuvenation treatment might include the following:

1. Mesotherapy:

What is Mesotherapy? Mesotherapy is a non-invasive technique based on superficial microinjections, just below the epidermis, into the target tissues. The solution injected can contain a wide range of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, nucleic acids and co-enzymes that can be tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

Mesotherapy brings just the right materials to the exact place where it is needed (around the hair follicle) so that the hair follicle can grow and survive, the excess of  male hormones causing hair loss (dihydro-testosterone) is neutralised and the blood circulation is stimulated.

2. Micro-needling (Collagen-induction-therapy)

Medical Skin Needling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)  is aimed at stimulating  a repair and healing process, which includes new collagen formation, release of growth factors and activation of stem-cells  and improved blood supply.

3. Hormonal topical and oral treatment to prevent hair loss (only available with a prescription).

4. Medical topical treatment which stimulate hair growth (only available with a prescription).

5. Laser or Light based therapies.

6. Surgical hair transplantation

Hair transplants are usually the last resort and often not needed if patients adhere to above treatment options.

It is clear that the best treatment for hair loss is the following:

  • Identify the cause for the hair loss.
  • Treat the cause.
  • Stimulate new hair growth.
  • Prevent further hair loss.
